“There Are Birds” is an album about birds, nature, the passage of time, and my relationship with these things and more. It’s my story told from a bird’s perspective and the birds’ stories revealed through my worldview.
I have been an avid bird watcher since 2004, so much so that my passion for birds nearly eclipsed my passion for music. But a few years ago, the death of a former bandmate brought me back to performing. When a musical lightning bolt struck in 2018, I decided to combine my love of birds with my love of music, and the idea for “There Are Birds” was born. The songs were completed in a matter of months. It was as if they had to be written; they simply flowed out of my head onto paper. By mid-2019, the album was completed. My love of birds and the natural world is what supports me through my most challenging times. Birding always restores peace and calm to my soul.
